Program #1022:
- WISE - Women in Sustainable Employment (specifically designed for Women with Multiple Barriers) - Surrey
Type of Program or Service:
- WISE is an employment program with a life-skills component and is wide open to women with multiple barriers to employment. WISE is designed to provide clients with tools to make a decision regarding their career goals, and has different workshops that help our clients to figure out their occupational & educational needs. WISE runs Monday to Friday from 9:30am and 2pm, for six weeks.
Workshops include:
~ Decision Making ~ Goal Setting & Action Plan Development ~ Interview Skills ~ Resume & Cover Letter Preparation ~ Current Labour Market Trends
We focus on job search techniques and provide assistance accordingly. We have a computer lab & teach computer skills to beginners. We also offer other clerical skills like: photocopying, faxing, telephone etiquette.
We have an interesting tool called, Employment Readiness Scale that has been designed to assess clients strengths & challenges in relation to becoming successfully employed and identifying the types of assistance that would be most helpful for them.
Life-skills workshops include:
~ Communication Skills ~ Self-Esteem; Self-care ~ Time Management ~ Stress Management ~ Relationship Building ~ Assertion Skills for Women ~ Conflict Management ~ Money Management
Eligibility: currently receiving income assistance, employment Insurance, new immigrant, working less than 20 hours per week, or on Disability.
